Even Lord Ganesh is feeling the heat of terror attacks. If the recent terror attacks and riots are any indication, Ganpati mandals in the city are taking nothing to chance. This year, most of the Ganpati mandals are going in for insurance cover in a big way to secure Lord’s ornaments.
Earlier, mandals with huge turnover used to go for insurance cover as the premium amount was high. Now, with insurance companies offering Rs31 lakh cover for just Rs3,000 premium, most of the Ganpati mandal’s are taking the extra cover to protect the Lord’s jewels.
“Paying premium for insurance is nothing for mandals with huge turnover. But for small mandals, paying the premium is a tough task. We have launched this scheme so that small mandals can also afford to pay the premium. We hope that most of the mandals will take advantage of this scheme,” said SachinKhnavilkar, administrative officer, Oriental Insurance Company.
“For this scheme, we have special agency— Chaze Insurance Brokers Private Limited—who will coordinate with the mandals. The insurance policy gives cover for 13 days. It starts before the festival day and lasts till the second last day. The new scheme provides insurance cover to devotees and the workers. Besides giving cover to the donation money and ornaments against theft, the policy also gives protection against natural calamities.
Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal has taken an insurance cover of Rs45 crore by paying a premium of Rs12 lakh. “This is a big hope for small mandals. It is a good scheme,” said Naresh Dahibaonkar, president of the Brihinumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshoutsav Samavay Samiti.
