Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today launched a sharp attack on Congress alleging its "votebank politics has destroyed" the country and the party had no agenda for the assembly elections.
The BJP stalwart also targeted Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as campaigning for first phase of polling on December 13 reached its final stage.
"Mr Prime Minister, Soniaji and friends from Congress due to your votebank politics the country has been destroyed", Modi said.
Apparently replying to Gandhi's comments at a poll rally at Dakor town earlier in the day, Modi said Congress was not a "service (sewa)-oriented party", as claimed by her, but a "mewa-bhawik" (benefit seeking party) party."
Addressing people across 53 places simultaneously through 3D holographic projection technology, he said "caste and votebank politics of Congress has destroyed the country."
"Congress has no agenda for this election," Modi charged. "It seems Sonia Gandhiji was reading a speech prepared for the 2007 election instead of 2012 election. She said there are 57 dark zones (talukas) in Gujarat. But she is unaware that my government has lifted them (talukas) out of dark zones."
"Dark zones" are the talukas where electricity connection is not given to anybody to draw underground water as water level has receded.
Modi once again targeted the Prime Minister. "The Prime Minister has not been able to rise above the politics of votebank," he said, hitting back at PM's remarks that time has come to "liberate" Gujarat from divisive politics.
"I thought being the Prime Minister of the country he would treat all the states equally. But hearing him speak a language of minority and majority would hurt any Gujarati," Modi said, adding six core Gujaratis live like a family.
Modi said there was "contradiction" between the statements of the Prime Minister and the Congress chief. "Sonia Madam says there is no development...while PM says development has taken place but from funding of Delhi."
